P-Bass comparison....
Have borrowed a Fender 57 Road worn P-Bass from one of the very GC's of the forum I'm interested in comparing how my $100 buck SX P-Bass compares to it now I've done 'upgrades' and reshaped the neck, rolled the fretboard, fret dressed etc.
The neck on the SX is bloody nice and I've done some reshaping - mainly knocking off the sharp edges, taking all the awful poly off etc. I've really gone to town on the fret dress too - I can lower the action to a gnats chuff if I want, but I do like a decent height on a bass.
I swapped out the POS tuners and bridge for Gotoh's. And the pickups are Rio Grande. Wiring comes courtesy of our forum member Matt - a pro wiring kit from Tonelounge. And the strings are halfround d'addarios - which have seriously grown on me Sticky at first until your skin gets into them - lovely eh....
So looking at sound as well as feel If it doesn't get me close I'll probably cry! I'll let you fullas know when I've done some testing.

Re: P-Bass comparison....
Sounds like you've taken that bass as far as it will go in life. Will be interesting to head the comparison.
Of course, once you're done with it the natural thing to do is list it on TradeMe for $1599 and imply that it's vintage and extremely valuable.

I'd love to, if you can drop it around at the weekendSingle coil wrote:Chuck my old samick into the mix for the lols
First impressions - my nuts are way too big!
The fender nut is perfect - I don't know if its original or luthiered. But I'm lowering mine to round about the same height. Dunno why I felt it needed to be higher than what I would normally do for a guitar - bigger strings or a brainstorm lol.
The roadworn does just seem easier to play at the moment, like it plays itself. Pah! I will not be beaten! Tone wise, I've not played them back to back enough yet, but the Fender does seem a bit more 'open'. Don't want to think its maple vs rosewood fretboard but I'm open minded.

Well I was going to offer you a free setup, but nah. The Alfa is overdue a WOF and I've not fixed the washers....Single coil wrote:Come get it squire.
