Very cool. Just out of interest did you manage to record the pot dates?

Didnt record the pot dates no. cant remember seeing any but then again didnt look.
Not sure of year or weather it is a re-issue or original. Has made in germany printed on back of headstock.

Re: The Hofner from Heck...
Its a bit puzzling.
Judging from the neck heel it's post 1968, but then the pickups should be the later "blade" type and the neck should be bound. (I've got a very early 64 Hofner) It's a lovely looking bass to be sure,
Congrats on the restore!

Re: The Hofner from Heck...
Thanks
Hmm yes the neck unbound/staple pickup thing has puzzled me too. Doubt it is a very old or valuable bass but it is a real hofner and likely to be the only one ill ever be able to afford
Most importantly it sounds cool!
I used it on these home recording demos.

Re: The Hofner from Heck...
I can whip the plate off later and get a shot of the pots. Be interested to see if anyone can date the thing.
As it came out of japan I suspect it was something built by Hofner for the Japanese market, as some sort of re-issue.
I might even email hofner at some stage to confirm.
Till then I'll just be playing the bass line to Obladi oblada contentedly

Re: The Hofner from Heck...
So here is the front and back of the control plate including pots. No dates that I can see.
Front corner there is DGMang printed. Dont know what that means.
My pots are sandy and dusty. Just how I like them.
Also back of headstock where made in germany print can still be seen.

You've done a great job.
Unfortunately, they were a horrible instrument - at least the one I had in the '60s was. I've never understood why Macca kept on playing one, it's not as if he couldn't afford a decent bass. BTW, just to upset those who like buying vintage stuff, it cost me ₤15 in 1963...
