North Island Venues
Hi all
My little contemporary folk band are looking to tour a little later this year. We're after venues. I'm hitting Google pretty hard and finding a few spots, but can anyone recommend any good places to play? We have a live EP and a website so have content we can share.
Initially we're looking at a New Plymouth to Wellington to tour.
We are aware of and have contacted:
Raumati Social Club
Levin Folk Club
The Rogue Stage Rotorua
Not sure which are the best to hit up in Wellington. Distinct lack of contacts!
If anyone could make any suggestions, please don't hesitate.
Cheers
Matt

Re: North Island Venues
Are you looking for venues that have a regular clientele to play too, or will you be ticketing and drawing your own crowd?
What sort of capacity are you after too?

Re: North Island Venues
A very good question. We'd probably be more after somewhere that has a regular clientele. Kind of like Karin at the Rogue Stage in Rotorua does.
I don't think we're at the point where it's easy to draw your own crowd outside of your hometown - hence why we've been hitting up the places that have a regular clientele.
We regularly play at home to between 50-150 people, but they are generally quieter sit down venues, and are filled by a core following. We're aware that this is a bit of a luxury.
Also interested in potential house gig contacts.

I'm sure Matt has NP sorted. Alanp or Ironbird for Whanganui. The Castle Cliff Club is a great venue but they like to 'rock' so may not be up you alley. Give them a ring. Who knows?

Hit me up for some ideas if you like? I've done a fair bit of touring 'round over the years. My partner and I also offer a one stop shop for touring (Van, driver, PA, soundman package) specifically tailored for indie folk, jazz, blues type stuff.

Valhalla in Wellington is a good spot...primarily metal and punk shows but they have different types of shows on during the week so it's good if you get stuck in Welly on a week night. Rogue and Vagabond is starting to host bands also, and it's a beautiful spot to be in the summer!
