some construction pics of 22
Since Im close to finishing...(stop it Jeremy!) I thought I might show some of the journey...this should help understand the finished product.
heres the basic hardware layout...2 x p90s and a mini humbucker
The top is Blackwood, Purpleheart and here where it gets weird...a sold sapele frame with a bridge block and a thin bar joining to each end - The topside where the bar is carved away from the top to allow the top to ring free and the underside - the thin strip contacts the back for the whole length

Re: some construction pics of 22
now this is where the story gets interesting....and quite dad.
So this was the headstock design at the design stage. and here are some production shots Sadly it all went astray.
Some how in between the design and the build I moved the Tuners - due to the screw position being slightly different....and it now has seriously incorrect string spacing. I only discovered this when I first strung it this week. Once I finish it - which is held up on some knobs arriving....you will see the result. To get around it Ive currently got the E and A string winding backwards...and actually only peeps like yo would notice anyway...
This is what happens when everything is a prototype and you cant always get the same hardware!

Re: some construction pics of 22
Very annoying indeed. Would it be possible to remove the headstock veneer? If so, fill the holes and start again, this time adding a veneer to the bottom of the headstock as well. No one will know, except all of us. And we can keep secrets...
When faced with quality, I recognise it every time.

That's a good idea. having to turn the tuners different ways would drive you crazyJay wrote:Very annoying indeed. Would it be possible to remove the headstock veneer? Re: some construction pics of 22
Looking good Lawrence. Where did you get your dyed veneer? I was going to do the same on a 3 piece neck as well! You binding on the board looks great - nice mitred joints. Real bastard about the headstock - but like Jay suggests is there the ability to steam the top piece off and reapply a new one and a backstrap?

The veneers come from Luthier Mercantile International> They have lots of good stuff...but the freight can be a killer!Lostininverness wrote:Looking good Lawrence. Where did you get your dyed veneer?
