Anyone here play Chet Atkins?
Mind telling me how?
I can travis pick alright, but my attempts at Chet sound pretty horrible. And the gear is not to blame
I know it's all practice...
Your thumb must pump away... independent of the fingers, said Gautama Buddha.
This course has helped a load, but there is still a huge gap in difficulty going to Chet's actual songs. https://truefire.com/essentials-guitar- ... tyle/c1012
Will report back after another year.

Re: Anyone here play Chet Atkins?
Bah, I duno. Wanted to 'upgrade'... or did I (manic episode, mental health not so good these days), lucky for me it's a bit of a niche hard sell It did result in a roland jazz chorus which I love (till that princeton reverb came up for sale...) and my mate brought around his geets during a hang and I realised how much I like filtertrons again.
Flipping guitars... my wife calls me crazy but I'm just working on my rockshop resume

Gah! My thumbpick is only good for downstrokes... is that normal? Watched a couple youtoobs... and I suspect they only downstroke the bass notes in Travis picking? The plectrum in me rebels against this.
Is there a thumbpick designed for alterate directions? Or should I just man up?

I have used Dunlop, Planet Waves, Acri pro and many others over the years. Currently running Fred Kelly Bumblebees, you can up pick very easy, just grab like a flatpick.Cdog wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 7:06 am Gah! My thumbpick is only good for downstrokes... is that normal?
