The Who Derby UK
Some of you might know I'm currently in the UK and the planets aligned and I manged to get to see them last night.
The venue was the The Incora County Cricket Ground in Derby and my first open air for a long time.
Of course it's england and it was scheduled to rain and it did ...... quite heavily !!!.
So we got in and headed to our seats. Looking good so of we went for beer and that didn't disappoint with many vendors selling everything bad for you and more.
First up was UB40 featuring Ali Campbell and they got the crowd going and I was surprised at the amount of songs I recognised and very good.
It was awesome to see the old Mods and Skinheads all dressed impeccably and it certainly made feel I was at a very British event.
Then the main event
Typical Who walked onstage and early so caught a lot of peeps out so it was a bit of a rush to get to your seat.
So the set list was as follows with the bonus of an Orchestra that certainly brought a new dimension to the songs.
With Orchestra Tommy
Overture
1921
Amazing Journey
Sparks
The Acid Queen
Pinball Wizard
We're Not Gonna Take It
Band Only
Who Are You
Eminence Front
The Kids Are Alright
You Better You Bet
Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere
Substitute
I Can't Explain
My Generation
Won't Get Fooled Again
Behind Blue Eyes
With Orchestra Quadrophenia
The Real Me
I'm One
5:15
The Rock
Love, Reign O'er Me
Baba O'Riley
Encore:
Tea & Theatre
The sound was great but not overly loud with the orchestra I presumed it would be a good balance for clarity. Pete's array of fenders were on show with a P90 version I've never seen for My Generation and was windmilling and having a good time winding the crowd up (football) and for 78 showing no sign of slowing down.
Roger's voice was phenomenal tbh and had me choking up on his screams and again didn't disappoint.
Zack Starkey is a mix of moon and Kenny and is perfect for the job with a very nice gold electric kit that was very cleverly disgused as a real kit and offered the boys added ear protection as we all know they need.
The rest of the band on form and the piano on Love reign was beautiful and spot on.
2 and a half hours flew by and the rain eased off and the smell of herb in the air made it complete for a bucket list gig and one that will stay with me for ever

Sounds fantastic!
Nice that Daltrey has kept his vocals in shape. So many 'big' voices wane with age.

That's so awesome!
That looks like a very tall blonde fender. Was it a twin or a vibroking you think? The three knobs to the left make me thing vibroking or SR rather than twin.
Don't worry. It's no different here, after the past couple of years I can't imagine attempting anything without the imminent promise of rain.

Beyond a critical point within a finite space, freedom diminishes as numbers increase. This is as true of humans as it is of gas molecules in a sealed flask. The human question is not how many can possibly survive within the system, but what kind of existence is possible for those who so survive.

You've also made them a bucket list item for me.
